From the book Memories Then and Now done in 1997 “Carolyn has never forgotten the whipping she got when Joan hit Randy with the coke bottle. Carolyn was about 8, Joan 6 and Randy 4 and they were outside cleaning the ditch in front of the house. Joan was out of the ditch and Randy was down in the ditch with the sack so Joan was throwing the bottles down to Randy and she accidentally hit him cutting his eye. Carolyn got the whipping because she was supposed to keep it from happening.”
See how we’ve grown and changed thru the years. Over the years we’ve lost three members to death(God Bless Garnet, Carolyn and Charlie) and there have been other changes but we all remain one big, happy family. The last photo is Christmas 1991 and there were 32 of us. With the newest additions this Thanksgiving there will be 49 of us, Mom, 5 children with spouses, 11 grandchildren with 7 spouses, 17 great grandchildren with two spouses and the first great great grandchild. -Cyndi
Mom and I spent the weekend in Tennessee exploring libraries and cemeteries. This is the tombstone of Harriett Hodges Hughes,Georgia’s grandmother. She is buried in Maple GroveCemetery outside of Lafayette. The death date has never been put on the stone, she died August 9, 1950. She was born in Tennessee, the daughter of Ezekiel and Sally Ashlock Hodges. She married George Lafayette Hughes who was 25 years older than she and together they had ten children. - Cyndi
